Juneteenth Parade

 June 2024

This Juneteenth, we stand in awe of a truly inspiring group of young heroes. Children of Homicide Victims stepped forward in their very first parade. Their courage and strength in the face of unimaginable loss are a testament to the resilience and spirit of our community.

These brave children are not just honoring the memories of their parents—they are taking a stand against violence and advocating for a safer, more compassionate world. By participating in the Juneteenth parade, they are lighting the way for all, showing that even in the darkest times, hope and change are possible.

Together, we are building a community of game changers. It starts here, with these incredible young leaders. Let’s cheer them on and support their journey towards healing and empowerment.

Join us in celebrating their bravery and commitment to a brighter future. Happy Juneteenth! 🖤✊🏾

E.P.I.C Party in the Park

  May 2024

May's E.P.I.C Healing was a heartwarming "Party in the Park" event for the COHV kids, marking another significant milestone in their healing journey. Memorial Day weekend was transformed into a fun-filled day, brimming with activities designed to support their emotional, physical, and character-based healing needs.

The day kicked off with organized play, where the children engaged in various games that fostered teamwork and joy. The highlight was undoubtedly the water play activities, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone as they splashed and played in the sun.

The event concluded on a poignant note, as the children honored their lost parents by planting "forget-me-not" seeds and decorating flower pots. This touching tribute served as a beautiful reminder of their loved ones, symbolizing growth, remembrance, and the enduring impact of their memories.

Through E.P.I.C Healing's thoughtful and supportive environment, these young participants not only found moments of joy and togetherness but also took meaningful steps forward in their healing process.

E.P.I.C Healing takes place every 4th Saturday.

COHV nominated "Best Community Organization" again for the Kansas City People's Choice Awards

 April 2024

We are thrilled to announce that Children of Homicide Victims (COHV) has once again been nominated for the prestigious Best Community Organization award at the Kansas City People’s Choice Awards. This marks another significant milestone for our organization as we continue to support and uplift children affected by the tragedy of losing a loved one to homicide.

COHV's dedication to making a positive impact in the community has been consistently recognized. Our most notable achievement came in 2020 when we emerged victorious in the finalist round, securing the award for Best Community Organization. Each year, our commitment has led us to the nominations, and this year, we are proud to have made it as a finalist for the second time.

The final voting round is open until May 31st, and we encourage everyone to cast their votes in support of COHV. The enthusiasm and hope among our kids are palpable as they eagerly anticipate the possibility of bringing home the trophy once more.

We are excited to share that 15 children from COHV have been selected to attend the awards show this year. These young ambassadors will represent our organization at the event, which will take place on Sunday, July 28th. Their presence underscores the resilience and strength of our community.

“I am so blessed my kids are apart of this organization. They have done so much for them in such a little time. And they have so much to offer. On top of the wonderful volunteers they have a founder who is awesome. Anytime I have needed assistance I always receive a call back from her directly."

Diamond, Lee Summit

"They definitely show up and out for COHV kids. Thank you for everything you all have done for my daughter, she loves y'all and I'm glad she has good people in her corner to understand her pain."
